Religion: It’s Not What You Think It Is
It’s been a
while since I’ve written on this blog and I apologize, but as most of you know
I’ve been busy promoting my latest book Whateverland
and collecting reviews.
So far I
have seven out of seven 5 star reviews. Most say it’s my best work to date.
I agree. So
for those of you who would like to read a highly praised new novel and hopefully
write a review when done, here’s the link: http://www.amazon.com/Whateverland-Zackary-Richards-ebook/dp/B00S9XKLMW/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t/190-0784174-6157604
Now on to
the topic.
I’ve often
wondered why so many people are pig-headed morons. When presented with
documented facts on a certain topics that are contrary to what they believe,
they often become agitated to the point of violence. They argue vehemently, although
when it’s looked at logically, they haven’t a leg to stand on.
And I’m not
talking about a belief in a deity, although that does have some applications, I’m
referring to people’s Belief Systems.
Like religion,
a Belief System is something a person has structured his or her entire life
around. It’s their core beliefs, their foundation, it’s what they are and what
they stand for.
And if you challenge
those beliefs, even if you present undeniable proof that their beliefs are
incorrect, they will fight you to the death because if you destroy that
foundation, you, in effect, destroy them. Because they don’t view it as an
informational upload, they view it as a personal attack.
For example
let’s take President Obama. All over the internet and media are shrill voices
screaming the Barack Obama is the worst president in our history and is
destroying America.
The facts
show the exact opposite. On January 20, 2009 the day President Obama took
office the Dow Jones was 7949.09. On February 13, 2015 the Stock market closed
at 17972.38 an increase a little over 10,000. Wall Street was on the verge of
collapse when the President took office, now it is flourishing.
It took
President Franklin Roosevelt nearly 13 years to pull us out of the Great
Depression. President Obama took us out of the Great Recession in a little over
6 years.
The American
Auto industry was on the verge of collapse. Today it thrives.
Banks were
on the verge of failure. Today they are once again healthy.
We were actively
engaged in two wars. Now the Arabs nations themselves are taking arms against
the extremists.
Insurance
companies were allowed to deny coverage to people with a pre-existing
condition. Now they are not.
There are
claims he’s letting illegal immigrant flood the country. Obama’s administration
has deported more illegal aliens that his predecessor George W. Bush.
Clearly the
facts indicate that President Obama is not the worst president. Statistically,
he is better than most. Few presidents have been as effective when faced with
so many serious challenges.
Yet there
are those who will vehemently disagree.
Which brings
us back to religion/belief systems. Some people have been taught since
childhood to hate blacks, to believe they are inferior. They are furious that a
poor black kid from a broken home was able to attend college and graduate with
honors when their own kids can’t even get a minimum wage job. They view
liberals as communists and traitors. They consider social programs
anti-american.
Many of
these people have worked physical labor jobs all their lives. They have done
without and have never taken a government hand-out. They adamantly believe that
every American should earn what they have and live within their means.
And that
makes perfect sense.
What doesn’t make sense is not questioning
accusations against a sitting president. He is YOUR representative whether you
like him or not. He is the only elected official we ALL get to vote for. Attacks
against him are attacks against your choice for president. Had I been elected
president and congressman Mitch McConnell said “The single most important thing
we want to achieve is for (fill in my name) to be a one-term President.,” as he
said about President Obama. I would have had him arrested for conspiring to
overthrow the United States Government.
Claims that
Obama is weakening our military are outright lies. We spend more money on our
military than the next five countries COMBINED. We have spent nearly One
TRILLION DOLLARS on the F-35 fighter jet alone and the damned thing can’t stay
in the air.
They say
Obama is blocking job creation by opposing the Keystone pipeline, but congress
won’t approve measures to ensure it’s built with American steel, that the oil
will remain in the U.S. or that pipeline spills won’t contaminate U.S drinking
water.
So ask
yourself, of the two which one is better serving your interests?
Want to know
my belief system? It’s simple. I’m not a conservative. I’m not a liberal. I am
an American and I will not stupidly chant U-S-A, U-S-A, and point fingers at
those who disagree with me. What I will do is carefully review the facts,
listen to both sides, then chose the path that will best benefit the majority
of the American people. And if I have a to pay a couple extra bucks in taxes to
make sure my neighbor doesn’t lose his house and savings because his job got outsourced
and his child has leukemia, then I’ll pay it.
I sure as
hell rather have that money spent on benefiting the needs of my fellow Americans
then spending a trillion dollars on a fighter plane we don’t need, and can’t
fly in order to defend us from an enemy that doesn’t exist.
