You’re Going to Lose Your Job

I’ve been saying this for years and it’s time you paid attention. When I was downsized in 2009, I went to every interview, every job fair and every mass hiring (there was only one of those) but couldn’t get a job. 

In addition, I was called back for a second interview several times, had excellent references, a great reputation in the industry and solid knowledge in my field. 

But I had one disastrous drawback. I was 50 years old with a wife and kids and needed a living wage. And during those lean years of the Great Recession… 

That wasn’t being offered. 

Thank God President Obama extended unemployment for 99 weeks and offered Cobra to continue my health care. That kept me from going under. I kept telling myself that sooner or later that if I just keep looking and applying, I would get another job. It was just a matter of time and the economy improving. 

Except neither happened. The reality is that there are 15 million unemployed and only 5 million jobs available. The government says unemployment is down but they’re counting part-time, three days a week jobs as full employment. 

Yet the stock market is at an all-time high. Wall Street is presently experiencing the most profitable years in its history. Yet unemployment is rampant. 

Things are getting better, you say? 
Tell that to the ten thousand employees Wal-Mart is getting set to lay off. (see the news article HERE) 

Now here is the reality. Unless you’re a cop or a fireman or a doctor, dentist or some other licensed professional, YOU ARE GOING TO LOSE YOUR JOB AND THERE AREN’T ANY OTHER JOBS BEING CREATED TO REPLACE IT. 

WHY? Because advancing technology and outsourcing is making middle-class jobs obsolete. Here’s what’s happening right now. 

You need only look around to see it. The 3 D Printer is rapidly replacing all assembly line, manufacturing and construction jobs. 
IBM’s WATSON computer is going to replace all customer service jobs. ALL OF THEM! 

Drones will deliver your mail and packages. 

The Google car will eliminate the need for truck, bus and cab drivers. 

Elance.com is already replacing the need for copywriters and graphic designers. 
Robo-callers are replacing salespeople and debt collectors. 

Software is replacing accounting departments. 

Automatic checkout lanes are replacing cashiers. 

So seriously, how long do you think your job is going to exist? 

Trust me, not much longer. And you’re going to be where I was in 2009. Unless you take action now. 

When I finally accepted the fact that I wasn’t going to get another job, I began to panic. I didn’t understand that being downsized was the best thing that could have happened to me. Because if no one was going to offer me a job, the only option I had left was to create one for myself. 

And that’s what I did. I now have a six figure business and drive a BMW. 
I’m not saying this to brag, I’m saying this because self-employment is the future. 

And I had to learn it the hard way. No one was willing to teach me a damn thing. I went through years of trial and error (mostly error) and nearly filed for bankruptcy.

But I kept at it and slowly turned things around. 

I recently completed teaching an eight-week course on starting an online business to thirty-five students. Many more applied but that was as much as the room could hold. 

When I saw how many needed to learn how to make additional income, I decided to create an online course. This way I can teach everyone who wants to learn how to start an online business, how to do it.

I absolutely love the life I have now and only wish I had known how to do this back in my twenties and thirties.

My Last Blog Post...

…was about affiliate marketing as were several others before it.

   Unfortunately in my eagerness to point out ways to make money in this crumbling economy I believe I may have sounded like a shady salesman trying to sell you a shady deal.

   I assure you that is not the case.

   But I understand the wariness especially when it seems just about everyone is trying to rip you off.  I looked at my cable bill yesterday and was thoroughly ticked off when I noticed all the Add-on charges like the franchise fee and the Internet Modem lease. I paid $50.00 for just the internet each month. Shouldn’t that cover those Add-ons?

   Another point is I’m a writer, first, last and always. And I’m good at it. I have my own style and people seem to enjoy it (am closing in on my 15,000th hit so somebody is reading my stuff)

   The thing is the publishing industry is in serious trouble (Barnes and Noble are closing their NOOK business) money is tight, budgets are being cut, advances are dropping, and fewer publishing houses are willing to take a chance on new authors.

   So, these new authors are going to have to adapt if they want a career as a writer. They are going to have to self publish, promote their books online and generate name recognition until they gain a loyal following.

   That takes money.

   Actually, that takes A LOT of money!

   And who do you trust to handle that end of the business for you? When I started Ari Publishing I was amazed at the number of rip-offs associated with so-called book publishers. I saw crowds of people laying out thousands of dollars to have their books published only to wind up with a product with a common template cover, computer generated editing with cheap paper and cheap glue.

   So when I discovered affiliate marketing and saw it was a legit way of making a considerable amount of money I wanted to get the word out to my fellow writers so they could generate enough to start an advertising campaign for their novels. In addition, by learning internet marketing, they would know the best ways to advertise and the best site to advertise on.

   But the thing is, my readers are a varied group from all over the world. Frankly, I was amazed that right after the US and England, Russia has the largest reader base of my blog. and so maybe affiliate marketing isn’t something they are interested in.

   Or maybe it is I don’t know.

   However, I’ve come up with a solution.

   I am going to add 2 additional websites to address both affiliate marketing and self publishing. As for this site, I’ve decided to return to writing fun stories and giving my take on current events and social issues, because frankly, that’s what got my 14,000+ hits.

   One last note. I know how to write and I know how to self-publish and can do both well. I’m new to affiliate marketing and before I promote stuff that I believe will lead you down the road to prosperity, I want to know from my own experience that it works, its legit and can warn you of any potential pitfalls.

   It was the first time I used them so I followed the tutorial and after a misstep or two and a couple of adjustments, I got it up and running. After the first 24 hours the amount of clicks and impressions were very poor and came nowhere near my daily budget of 33 dollars a day. So following the tutorial’s instructions I scraped the non performers and increased the budget on the top performers.

   The amount of clicks and impressions increased dramatically but the conversions were lagging so more tweaking was necessary. By the sixth day I felt my budget of 33 dollars a day for 3 days should be almost spent so I went to the account site and discovered that Adwords was replenishing my account balance using my credit card.

   I called and was informed that I didn’t check the “Manually Add Money’ box and the default is replenish the account balance as needed.   

   That little error cost me $150.00.   Live and Learn.

   So there you have it. I am spending a considerable amount of time honing my affiliate marketing skills and hopefully pretty soon I’ll not only be able to create a big successful advertsing campaign for Ari Publishing books, I’ll be able to show you how to do it for yourself as well.

How to Start an Online Business for FREE

   Watched a show on PBS last night about how financial planners, financial advisors, stock brokers etc. all rip you off.

   But you already knew that didn’t you? You just don’t want to believe it, and I can’t say I blame you. Investing is complex and difficult to learn.

   Except it isn’t.

   John Bogle the former CEO of the Vanguard Group the largest investment group in the world gave a simple explanation regarding the difference between index investing and speculation.

   The point is anyone can invest in index funds and make a good amount of money in the long haul. According to Bogle this is how the average working person should invest. Buying and selling stocks is like gambling in Vegas. You can have a great streak for awhile but eventually you’re going to crap out.

   You may ask why I telling you this when the title of this post is about starting a business on line.

   Here’s why: The government is juggling the figures regarding unemployment. They’re counting people with part–time jobs as employed when most work less than 20 hours a week.

   The baby boomers are retiring: the financial boom over the last thirty years was generated by their spending. They’re watching their money now.

   Big Box stores are in trouble: Sears, JC Penny, Kmart, Best Buy, Barnes and Noble, Rite Aid and Office Depot are teetering on bankruptcy. Even Wal-Mart had a huge loss in their profits.

   Why? Because more and more of us are buying on line. Amazon isn’t having any trouble, in fact they’ve never been better. Purchases from online companies are growing in leaps and bounds, and why not? They can supply the same product as the brick and mortar stores at a lower price because they don’t have overhead expenses.

   Want to know who the next generation of millionaires and billionaires are going to be? Simple. The people who look around, see what happening, adapt to the changes and start their own online business.

   But like investing, people believe that’s too complex for them. They think they need a degree in business or marketing or some other such nonsense.

   It doesn’t need to be complex. The old saying ‘Build a better mouse trap and the world will beat a path to your door’, is still true.

   Okay it’s Monday and you’ve had most of the weekend to read and test drive the Marketing Method I sent you that proves you can start an Internet Business with no product, no experience and no money.    This is not to say there aren’t pitfalls in affliate marketing. As mentioned in the Marketing Method, choosing your niche is very important. There is a fine line between picking something like weight loss or health tips which are very popular and something obscure, say for instance, Latvian basket weaving.

   The problem is weight loss products already have A Lot of affiliates plowing that field. Same goes for health tips so there’s too much competition for a newbie. On the other hand the number of people interested in Latvian basket weaving might be too small to generate a profitable niche.

   As mentioned in the article the best way to get ahead of the competition is to use laser targeted keywords to get your selected product on Google’s first page. Nearly all the top affiliate marketers swear that’s the fastest way to get your income stream flowing.

   So let’s review the steps so far.

   First you create a separate business email account. This is crucial if you’re taking this seriously. Without one, none of the free sites I will be directing you to will give you access and I won’t be able to forward you the video tutorials that explain the process. Also, keep in mind you can cancel access to your email by simply scrolling down to the bottom of the company’s ad or offer or whatever and click unsubscribe and you won’t hear from them again.

   Once that’s done, you sign up and get a free account at www.clickbank.com  then you go click on marketplace on the toolbar and start searching for a product you think will sell. Here’s a trick to tell what’s a potential top seller and what’s a dud. If you look under the product you’ll see its stats. Focus on the product’s GRAVITY. I have the location of that stat circled in red on the clickbank picture below. As you can see the gravity of this product is 183 which is very good. That means the product is selling well.

    Rule of thumb is anything over 50 shows real potential, but it also means a number of people are marketing it. So go with something you’d buy yourself. In fact you should consider buying whatever you intend to promote if you can, this way if it is as good as you think it is, you’ll gladly promote the hell out of it and make some money. And if it’s a bomb, then cut your losses and try something else.

   I suggest you start with inexpensive products first. Just to see what you feel comfortable promoting.    Next step. You’ve found a product that you like and think will sell. Congratulations! The question is, how do you get it out before the buying public? Here’s a secret, whenever someone is looking for something, THEY USUALLY GO TO GOOGLE FIRST. Then they scan the first page. People rarely go on to the 2^nd page so page one is where you want your product to be.

   But how do you get on page 1 of Google? The answer is laser targeted keywords.

   And what are keywords? Keywords are single words or phrases that people looking for something on the internet type in to find what they’re looking for. The one's I used are on the bottom of this page. On one of the previous steps I explained that by placing the word or phrase in quotations inside the google box, google will tell you how many searches have been made for that word or phrase.

   The goal is to get a low number but without becoming too obscure, which is where nobody will find your promo ad or article. So let’s use “exotic fish” as an example on Google. Search results, 842,000. Way too many. How about “rare and exotic fish” that drops it to 157,000. Better but still too high. “Rare exotic and predatory fish” brings us down to 127,000. So we still got a way to go. How about “Rare exotic and predatory fish in Los Angeles” You would think being more specific would lower the searches. Nope. Just the opposite, it jumped to 63 million! So always check them before you use them.

   So let’s try a mix with similar words. How about “exotic and unusual fish” BINGO, my friend. That drops the searches to 9,450 which almost guarantees a 1^st page spot on Google if you put that phrase in the title of your ad or article. If you do, you’ll very likely get some conversions. Cha-ching!

   Next step. How do you make people aware of your product? One of the many ways is to write an ad or an article. Ads are especially easy and can be placed for free. Here is a FREE tutorial that walks you through the process.

Step #1 How to Start an Internet Business with No Product, No experience and No Money

   A friend of mine was laid off last Friday from a job he held for 11 years. He seems upbeat and confident that he’ll get another one in no time.

   He is 52 years old.

   And that is NOT good. He doesn’t participate in social media so he won’t see this but I read recently that the odds of securing a similar position with the same pay scale decreases by 10% for every year you’re over that half-century mark. Which means that my friend at age 52 is 20% less likely to be hired than a person under 50.

   He’ll be 53 in July. Then he will be 30% less likely. By age sixty he’ll be virtually unemployable.

   And there are A LOT of people under 50 looking for jobs.

   There are always exceptions to this rule. Specialists in various disciplines come to mind. Those in the corporate hierarchy probably need not be concerned, but the majority of us don’t fall into those categories. Most of us are simply people who work white or blue collar jobs that make a product or provide a service.

   So ask yourself. If your only source of income is from your present job, what will you do if, like my friend, you get laid off and are unable to get another full time job with a decent salary? I ask because your competition is rapidly approaching. Many of my adult children’s friends, just out of college with bachelor and Master degrees are seriously underemployed, underpaid and carrying substantial student loans.

   And they’re desperate for a real job, possess the latest technical skills, are physically able to put in long hours, nights and weekends and…

   YOU’RE IN THEIR WAY!

   I’m not saying this to depress or worry you but this is a reality that needs to be addressed and dealt with.

   The working world has changed. Age and experience, once valued, are now a hindrance. It views the experienced worker this way. They will soon have health issues, they aren’t as sharp, they resist change and have difficulty learning new complex business procedures. PLUS, they expect to be treated like a human being when in fact, they are NOTHING MORE THAN MEAT MACHINES, TO BE WORKED FOR AS HARD AND AS LONG AS NECESSARY AND WHEN THEY FALTER, BE DISCARDED AS QUICKLY AS ONE WOULD REPLACE A SLOW AND OBSOLETE COMPUTER.

   Listen, can you hear it?

   TICK… TICK…TICK…

   There’s room at the top they are telling you still, sings John Lennon on the song Working Class Hero. But first you must learn how to smile as you kill, if you want to be like the folks on the hill.

   During the last election the folks on the hill showed their true colors. They’re using their vast resources to get our elected officials to put an end to unions, pensions, businesses providing healthcare, Social Security and Medicare.

   But what if we turned the tables?

   What if these massive companies that are buying all this influence suddenly had millions of small business competitors? Small businesses that, unlike the ones these massive companies undercut and ran out of business, could compete by selling the same products at the same low price?  

   Well, that would change things, wouldn’t it?

   How would you like to have several sources of income streams that require your attention for only few hours a day?

   This is no get rich quick scheme. There are no phone calls involved, no sales pitch, no mailing things or contacting friends or relatives. However it IS an actual way to make an honest living which isn’t at all hard if you’re willing to listen, learn and do what is necessary to succeed. To do this, all you need is a computer and internet access.

   So this is what I’m going to do. It's because I’m starting to make some money doing exactly what I’ll be teaching you (not much so far but it's steadily increasing and it takes a while to grow a business) and since I was taught for free by several people whose only request was that I have a look at their product, it seems only fair to pass on this knowledge.
